“Compromise, in which both parties must be willing to make reasonable concessions, is the main condition of productive arrangements, transition from truce in Donbas to sustainable peace and creation of conditions for the broad pragmatic economic cooperation. Nobody likes compromise, but this is the only way for Ukraine”.

The tactics of dragging out the negotiations and “freezing” the conflict in Donbas has become the state policy of the Ukrainian authorities, which got the country cornered. Such policy restores the risks of large-scale hostilities. The only alternative is to find a compromise solution based on the constitutional reform in Ukraine, elections in Donbas and broad participation of the OSCE in the process of ensuring peace. A detailed plan to resolve the situation in the east of the country is outlined in the report of “New Ukraine” Institute “Paris 2. On the Settlement of Conflict in Donbas”.
