Ukraine needs a total government reset, not some staff rotations in the Cabinet. Only a new government with effective programs can stop the economic decline in Ukraine. This opinion was voiced by MP Serhiy Lovochkin (OPPOSITION BLOC) in his comments to the media on the parliament sidelines.
“Do you really believe that now they will shuffle the beds around, rotate some people and the government will start working? I think no one believes this at this point. Even coalition members do not believe this. It would take a major overhaul. We need a total reset of the entire government, and new and effective programming,” Lovochkin said.
He said the government report had nothing to do with real life. “It says how well the economy develops, there is not a word of truth there. There is not a single word about a 10% drop of our GDP, the fall in exports of 31%, a record inflation of 43% and a drop in real wages by 20%. There is no reference to the fact that Ukraine ranks 162nd in the Economic Freedom Index and 130th in the Corruption Perception Index. This is one of the worst positions, and it is a shame! And yet this government has been in power for two years already,” the MP said. He pointed out that this was the reason why the Opposition Bloc insisted on the resignation of Yatseniuk’s Cabinet and the parliament re-election. “A new coalition should be formed and the real path to economic development should be found,” Lovochkin said.
He reminded that amid the current difficult economic situation, the OPPOSITION BLOC proposed specific actions associated with changes in the budget. “These changes will allow to allocate UAH 10 billion for regional development, 62 billion for raising wages and pensions (the minimum wage - to UAH 1958, and the minimum pension - to UAH 1526). Thus, we will boost the domestic market, people will get the money, they will come to stores to buy something, and it will not only allow people to survive, it will also help the economy grow,” the policy maker noted.
Lovochkin also added that one of the reasons for the collapse of the economy and the deterioration of the living standards was the war. “Therefore, there will be two issues on the OPPOSITION BLOC agenda: the first is finding the path to peace, and the second one is changing the budget to provide real help to the economy, real help to the people,” the MP concluded.
Recall, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said at an emergency Cabinet meeting that the government would work as a united team and prepare an action plan for the next 12 months.
