The government pitches lustration as the fight against corruption. MP Serhiy Lovochkin, Deputy Chair of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction said this following his meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini on Wednesday, December 17.

“The government of Ukraine pitches lustration as the fight against corruption. They always blame some abstract people from the past. Today we need to engage in the fight against corruption, not lustration - this is the task for the government,” stressed the politician.

Serhiy Lovochkin noted that the European Union would insist on the implementation of decisions of the Venice Commission regarding lustration.

“It is also very important, because it was clearly stated to the Ukrainian authorities that the law on lustration, which they adopted and are now enforcing, is neither European, nor democratic. This law violates the constitutional rights of people. And it should be amended in the near future,” Serhiy Lovochkin concluded.
