Incompetent economic policies of the current government have led to a situation, in which Ukraine finds itself in one group with the African republics of Congo and Chad in terms of economic freedom. MP Serhiy Lovochkin (OPPOSITION BLOC) said this commenting on the release of the annual Economic Freedom Index compiled by the Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal.
He is confident that after this assessment the government should resign.
“This index is a clear assessment of the Cabinet in terms of attracting investors, improving the business climate and economic reforms,” Serhiy Lovochkin said. In the Economic Freedom Index, Ukraine ranks 162nd out of 178 countries. We are on a par with such ‘developed and attractive for investors’ countries as the Solomon Islands, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chad,” Serhiy Lovochkin stressed.
The current government has been in power for almost two years, and despite their slogans and promises, Ukraine remains a country with the highest economic restrictions in Europe, the politician said. “And this despite the fact that the government constantly talks about deregulation, economic freedoms and restoring the economic stability,” the MP said.
He emphasized that over the past two years Ukraine lost seven positions in the economic freedom index. “Ukraine’s performance in the category of monetary freedom deteriorated significantly due to inflation. The freedom of doing business also decreased markedly. The drop was also observed in such categories as labor market freedom and fiscal freedom,” Serhiy Lovochkin noted.
After such an assessment of world-class experts the government should resign voluntarily, Lovochkin said. “Unfortunately, we can hardly expect this from the current Cabinet. We, as always, shall hear from the Prime Minister that it is the war, Putin, the previous government, the opposition that are to blame for everything - anybody but the government,” Serhiy Lovochkin said.
“The OPPOSITION BLOC believes that today the main threat to political and economic stability of Ukraine is the current incompetent, unprofessional and corrupt government. That is why Ukraine needs a new Cabinet that will deal with the issues of peace and economic development,” Serhiy Lovochkin summed up.
