The OPPOSITION BLOC will insist on passing the law on opposition. Serhiy Lovochkin, an Opposition Bloc leader said this answering journalists’ questions on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada prior to the meeting of the Preparatory Deputy Group on Thursday, November 20.

According to him, the OPPOSITION BLOC insists on three fundamental issues.

“We will insist on passing the law on opposition, as in any civilized society ‘rules of the game’ should be defined within parliament. And the rights of the opposition should be enshrined in the law. Such commitments were taken by the President of Ukraine, such commitments were taken by the the forces that have now formed the parliamentary majority. Moreover, when they were the opposition, it was their fundamental demand,” the politician added.

Also, according to Serhiy Lovochkin, the opposition will demand controlling functions in the Verkhovna Rada, namely the leadership positions in a number of committees.

“These are the fundamental for us committees on freedom of speech, social policy, regulations, legal policy and human rights,” Serhiy Lovochkin noted.

“All issues are a matter of dialogue. But we will demand one thing - the opposition must get controlling functions, as is the case in Europe. It is our objective to have the principles of European democracy established in the Ukrainian parliament,” Serhiy Lovochkin stressed.

“We will propose a candidate for Speaker from the OPPOSITION BLOC. Of course, we understand that we do not have enough votes. But our position is that we have a competent person, who will cope with this job. We have decided that it will be Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of Dnipropetrovsk oblast branch of the OPPOSITION BLOC,” the politician said.
