The program adopted by the new government does not include clear objectives, deadlines for its implementation and is absolutely pointless. Serhiy Lovochkin, Deputy Chair of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction, said this answering journalists’ questions on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, April 15, the OPPOSITION BLOC press service reports.
“The new government does not have a program. We do not understand what goals they set before them and what activities they will give an account of in the end. The program that was voted for in the parliament yesterday - it's just pieces of paper with no content or deadlines,” Serhiy Lovochkin stressed.
He said that the coalition agreement was yet to be implemented and emphasized that one could hardly expect that it would be implemented by the new government without the parliamentary support. “When the Yatseniuk government had over 300 votes in the Rada hall, they failed to vote for the most important reforms concerning social security, health care and tariffs. And so now that everyone is well aware that early elections will be held soon, I do not believe that the coalition will be able to make effective policy decisions. Especially since they do not have the majority, as evidenced by yesterday's vote for the new government, when coalition members gave only 206 votes, and the rest was picked from other factions and groups. There is no coalition as such today, and the government does not have a strong support in the parliament,” the MP said.
He pointed out the actions of Arseniy Yatseniuk, who had scornfully left the hall of the Verkhovna Rada, without waiting for the speech the President - an indication of a lack of unity among the parliamentary majority.
“We have not seen anything like this since Ukraine’s independence. It's not just the Prime Minister, who resigned. He is a leader of the party, which is the second largest in parliament and is a member of the coalition. This disrespect shows that we are still far from overcoming the political crisis,” the politician believes.
Despite this, Lovochkin noted that the OPPOSITION BLOC would offer its assistance to the new government, because the country expects concrete results from policy makers.
“People should have a better life, we need to give them hope. And, most importantly, reforms must be implemented so that Ukraine may become a truly European state, which unfortunately has not occurred under the previous government. Even though I have very little optimism about the Groisman government, but we are ready to advise them on how to work,” the member of parliament said.
According to him, early parliamentary elections may be a way out of the current political crisis.
“The Parliament should be re-elected, after which a stable and strong coalition should be formed. Today all parliamentary factions realize that elections will be held soon. Therefore, political competition is inevitable, especially among the parties of the former coalition, which work on one electoral field. And this competition, unfortunately, will interfere with the desire of the government to implement reforms,” Serhiy Lovochkin summed up.
