The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should as soon as possible resolve the issue of the exclusion of two million Ukrainians from the electoral process - 500,000 residing on the contact line and 1.5 million IDPs. This message was stressed by MP Serhiy Lovochkin (OPPOSITION BLOC) in his remarks at the 12th Annual Meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).
According to the politician, half a million people in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, who live in towns and villages near the contact line, will not be able to participate in the electoral process.
“A million and a half of displaced people remain cut-off, too. This makes two million people in total. And this problem needs to be resolved immediately by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” the politician stressed.
According to him, the country could be saved only by building an effective national dialogue and tolerance for one other.
“The only path to reconciliation and progress is the consolidation of the nation around the idea of a strong, modern and effective Ukraine,” the MP said.
