This was stated by OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE MP Serhiy Lovochkin on the sidelines of the parliament on Nov. 13.

The MP said the land reform is among key reforms, therefore it cannot be introduced hastily.

“This reform must be well-measured. But legislative proposals that we currently see do not meet these criteria. And it poses a great risk for the whole country,” the opposition politician said.

He added that OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE adamantly opposes this version of the reform and will not vote in favor of it.

“The stance of OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE is that this reform cannot be passed, and we announced it today when we were blocking the parliamentary rostrum over this issue.”

OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE demands two things prior to the introduction of the land market. The first is the need to share state lands among those who hadn’t received land shares before.

“State lands must be distributed among those who hadn’t received land shares during the first round of privatization. How is a village teacher or doctor or a town doctor worse than others? Why can’t they obtain their share of the national wealth?,” Lovochkin said.

The second demand is to hold a referendum. “The people will vote on whether the land reform should be implemented,” the MP said.

Lovochkin said that hasty consideration of the land market issue led to a parliamentary crisis provoked by the party of power.

“The rostrum has been seized by the party of power in order to push the land reform. The government is making a double mistake, both in form and meaning. The mistake in meaning is that the proposed land-regulating legislation is imperfect, irrelevant, and doesn’t fit the times. The mistake in form is that this kind of reform must not be passed through blocking the rostrum, it’s uncivilized,” the MP said.
