The parliament agenda does not reflect the demands imposed onto the Parliament by the Ukrainian society. MP and a member of the OPPOSITION BLOC parliamentary faction Serhiy Lovochkin said this on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, June 16.

“More politicking, more aggression, more political struggle - all of this has nothing to do with what the country needs. Ukraine needs peace, reforms and higher social protection. This Parliament is not doing any of that. The Parliament is engaged in politicking, and the position of the OPPOSITION BLOC is that it should be dissolved. The country needs new elections and a new coalition,” Lovochkin said.

The MP noted that the adoption of social laws and the implementation of the Minsk agreements offering a chance for the peace process in Donbas should be the parliament’s priority. “The agenda proposed by the OPPOSITION BLOC now includes the demand to adopt social laws that return social benefits to the ATO area. We demand to raise the standards of social protection for doctors, teachers and all disadvantaged groups. Another item on our agenda is to achieve peace in Ukraine. We insist on the inclusion of draft laws in the parliament agenda that are required for the implementation of the Minsk agreements offering a chance for the peace process in Donbas,” Lovochkin said.

He also stressed that the OPPOSITION BLOC would not support changes in the composition of the Central Election Commission (CEC) proposed by the President, since the election of CEC without representatives of the opposition was a violation of democracy.

In addition, Serhiy Lovochkin expressed his opinion on the law on special confiscation procedure, another version of which had been submitted to the parliament by the Popular Front. “What is proposed now is a pointless law. It actually abolishes the presumption of innocence. I am convinced that the world has much better examples of laws that deal with corruption and the return of stolen assets. We must take these examples and implement them in Ukraine rather than adopt a law that is now politically expedient. We shall oppose this draft law and demand to pass a relevant law that would meet the best standards of democratic countries,” the MP said.
