The initiation of the land market is impossible without economy revival, availability of affordable bank loans, and distribution of state-owned farming land. This was stated by OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE MP Serhiy Lovochkin in the Verkhovna Rada.

“When the country’s poor, you cannot sell the land. First the economy must be revived, salaries and pensions increased, affordable bank loans provided. So that all those who farm that land can buy it. You can’t just create a situation when foreign investors come and buy it for next to nothing,” Lovochkin said.

The politician believes that the earlier practice of land distribution had been discriminatory, and that a second stage of land distribution must be implemented, including that of the state-owned land.

“Only 7 million of our citizens had been distributed plots of the Ukrainian farming lands. Why did it happen that representatives of the intellectual class in the countryside, like teachers and doctors, have not been included? Why did it happen that town and city people who had spent 30 – 40 years working for various enterprises have not been included? This is not fair. We believe that low-income citizens should be among the first to receive their plots during the distribution of farming land that is currently state-owned,” the MP said.

Lovochkin also reminded that a vast majority of Ukrainians support the need to hold a referendum regarding land market.
