Most Ukrainians do not support the introduction of the land market under current conditions. This was stated by OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE MP Serhiy Lovochkin on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

According to the politician, Ukrainian farming lands have been significantly undervalued.

“Introduction of the land market under current economic conditions in Ukraine will strip present owners of land shares. The lands we have in Ukraine must be priced correctly and cost at the European level,” Lovochkin added.

The MP said that OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE parliamentary faction adamantly opposes the bill on the land market and will not vote in favor of it.

“Our faction took to the rostrum today and voiced its stance,” the parliament member said. He said preparations are needed before the land market is introduced.

“We believe justice must be restored, and all farming land must be shared among those people who hadn’t received it during the initial distribution,” Lovochkin said.

After the state land is shared, an all-Ukrainian referendum on the land issue must be held. The referendum will answer the question whether Ukrainian people are willing to raise moratorium for sales of farming lands.

“Ukrainian people must make up their minds during the referendum and decide whether Ukrainian farming lands can be sold. Only after it might the administration, including the president, the parliament, or the Cabinet, rule on introducing the land market. Before these conditions are met, we will adamantly oppose the bill,” the opposition politician said.
