Due to current political and informational situation in the nation, the key Ukrainian issue of war and peace seems to have lost its top priority, but this is not true, OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE MP Serhiy Lovochkin said in an interview with STRANA.UA. The war in the east of Ukraine, Lovochkin said, is a global matter for Ukraine’s future, therefore both the nation and the government must understand that peace issue is a top priority.

“The peak of the epidemic will be over in several weeks, leaving behind its economic outcomes. But the war in the east of Ukraine is a global matter for the nation’s future. Nothing will happen if we don’t solve it. Without ending the war, we won’t be able to allocate more resources for economic development of the country. Therefore, both the society and the government must realize that peace issue is a top priority,” the politician said.

He is certain that peace is an achievable result even under current conditions, but this requires political will.

“During the epidemic, the situation must be assessed differently, in a new way, and fast and efficient solutions are needed to implement the peace plan,” the MP said.

According to Lovochkin, the government is being pushed by the nationalists and therefore is seeking a middle ground between their position and international obligations regarding peace.

“But quick implementation of the Minsk agreements is the only way to reach peace in Ukraine. Nothing is possible without peace,” the politician explained.

Lovochkin said OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE is opposing the government but is willing to help it with any initiatives that meet Ukraine’s national interests.

“Our party supports everything that is peace-oriented, and we are willing to lend our shoulder to such initiatives,” Lovochkin said.
