For the opposition it is a matter of principle to lead committees that will help monitor the government. Serhiy Lovochkin, an OPPOSITION BLOC leader said this answering journalists’ questions on parliament sidelines prior to the meeting of the Preparatory Deputy Group on Monday, November 24, the party press service reports.
“We had a meeting of two subgroups that made up the Preparatory Deputy Group, where a decision was made to increase the number of parliamentary committees from 25 to 27. The two new committees will now deal with issues of informatization and information technology, which previously were covered in the Committee on Transport and Communications. Also, the Committee on Law Enforcement and Combating Corruption may now split into two separate committees,” Serhiy Lovochkin said.
According to him, these decisions are sound, as “Ukraine has become a modern European country, and the issues of informatization and combating corruption are extremely important.”
“The creation of two more committees provides a superior and more effective mechanism to achieve objectives in these areas,” the politician added.
According to Lovochkin, there has been no discussion so far as to who will head a particular committee.
“The OPPOSITION BLOC insists that the parliament should no longer use the quota principle in committee appointments. The Opposition calls for a European approach and insists that they should take charge of those committees that will help monitor the government. It is our fundamental position,” Serhiy Lovochkin concluded.
