OPPOSITION PLATFORM – FOR LIFE insists that the prime minister must explain his position on the most recent headline-making issues, MP Serhiy Lovochkin told reporters on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada.

The politician believes there are two subjects that must be clarified.

“The first one is the transcript of the talks in the Cabinet of Ministers. If it’s real, a prime minister in a civilized country would resign, with apologies to the head of the state elected by the people. The second subject is what happened last morning [a letter of resignation filed by Prime Minister Honcharuk – ed.]. I believe that the notice he wrote to the president is of political and moral nature. If the president tells the prime minister that he must resign for what he had said and for being an ignoramus in economics, then the prime minister must give his notice to the Verkhovna Rada, and it will relieve him from office together with the Cabinet,” the MP said.

Lovochkin says this scenario will lead to a government crisis and to subsequent creation of a new Cabinet because the mono-majority in the parliament persists.

“After this demonstration of being unprofessional and following the analysis of the dialogues that we heard in the prime minister’s office, this government will no longer be trusted. Neither by us, nor by international partners or President Zelensky,” Lovochkin said.

The politician believes it’s not possible to assess the government’s work because it had included no understandable measurements in its program that could be set as targets for a certain period.

“The key problems are the state of economy, the level of social protection, and peace, and none of them are being solved. Unfortunately, we see prolongation of stagnation, increase of salaries for officials only, and lots of PR. And that’s it,” Lovochkin said.

The MP expressed his doubts that the new prime minister will be appointed any time soon.

“Unfortunately, we can see that the president has no team of professionals who would be able to quickly create a comprehensive program of national development and then implement it. This is why one Honcharuk might be replaced by another one, but there are reasons to doubt that his efficiency would increase,” the politician said.

At the same time Lovochkin believes that the Cabinet resignation will not bring any negative consequences.

“I don’t think that the government’s resignation will cause any fantastic turbulence given what’s already happening in the nation. If it does resign, it will pass barely noticeable, and all eyes will be on the new candidate offered by the president. It’s also possible that this shift will change the agenda around our country,” Lovochkin said.
