MP from THE Opposition Bloc Serhiy Lovochkin said that the parliament must immediately abolish discrimination against the church. This opportunity appeared after yesterday’s passage through the committee of the draft law on the abolition of mandatory re-registration of religious organizations.

Lovochkin stressed that the draft law automatically introduces the Ukrainian canonical Orthodox Church, as well as other churches in the Register of non-profit organizations. The politician believes that this draft law should be included in the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada at the next session week and adopted without delay.

“This draft law restores justice to the Ukrainian canonical Orthodox Church, other churches. All previous discriminatory decisions concerning the church should be abolished, the draft law on the abolition of mandatory re-registration must be adopted without delay. The task of all politicians without exception is the restoration of civil peace inside the country. Stopping the attacks on the canonical church is a necessary step towards peace in Ukraine,” Serhiy Lovochkin stated.

According to the politician, any attacks on the canonical church - both politicians and street radicals - lead Ukraine away from the path to peace and civil consent. “Attacks on parishes, threats to parishioners, any manifestations of aggression towards the canonical church destroy the dream of millions of Ukrainians to return to peaceful life, to live in peace and harmony,” he explained.

Serhiy Lovochkin stressed that in different factions, including the current majority, there were deputies who initiated this law. "This gives hope to stop the attacks on the church in Ukraine,” he said.
